Cristiano Ronaldo shows off ripped physique as he does sprinting workout in summer training

Cristiano Ronaldo has shown off his ripped physique as he puts himself through testing sprint workouts.

The 38-year-old moved to Saudi Arabia in December after his Manchester United contract was ripped up.

Since then, Ronaldo he has blazed the trail for other high-profile stars to make the move to the Gulf state.

Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves and Karim Benzema are just a handful of players to have swapped life in Europe for Saudi Arabia.

And with bigger names comes bigger expectations - not that this has put Ronaldo off.

If anything, it has only spurred the five-time Ballon d'Or winner on further - and he is already putting his body through its paces.

The Portugal international took to social media to post his progress that has included gruesome sprint training through the Saudi desert.

"No pain no gain," the first story is captioned on Instagram.

His next story showed a video of himself topless and there is no doubting the veteran striker's physique despite approaching the age of 40.

He remains a lesson for every footballer who wants to keep themselves in pristine shape.

He was even joined by his partner Georgina Rodriguez for a run in the Saudi heat, which can reach as high as 45 degrees at this time of year.

It is no surprise to see that the couple turned to the sea to cool off following their workout, riding in a jet ski in the Red Sea.

Al Nassr are back in action on July 17 when they face Celta Vigo in a pre-season friendly.

There are also further exhibition matches against Benfica, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan.

Whether Ronaldo will be joined by any fellow European exports remains to be seen after a move for Hakim Ziyech of Chelsea fell through.

But a transfer could be revived under different terms after the Morocco international failed a medical.

Marcelo Brozovic did make the move, however, after eventually agreeing to leave Inter Milan this summer but he will be reunited with his old teammates on July 27.
