Hitman who murdered Trainspotting star Bradley Welsh slashed in prison blade attack

The hitman who shot dead T2 Trainspotting star Bradley Welsh was targeted in a blade attack by another inmate in prison.

Sean Orman was convicted of gunning down Welsh, 48, outside his home in Edinburgh’s New Town in 2019.

The 32-year-old suffered a wound near his eye during the incident at HMP Perth where he is serving a 28-year sentence for murder.

Orman was paid £10,000 to carry out the slaying of former boxing champ Welsh on the orders of a gangland figure associated with the notorious Lyons clan.

The hit was part of a feud between that paymaster and a gangster linked to the rival Daniels crew.

He was previously behind bars at Shotts Prison in North Lanarkshire where sources say he was living in fear of reprisals.

Orman was wounded in the assault earlier in the month. A source said: “Orman has been swaggering about in Perth but he doesn’t have the same level of protection from associates that he did in Shotts.

“He’s a marked man so these kind of attacks are likely to continue. The Daniels gang aren’t going to forgive and forget what happened.

“Orman was lucky this time as the injury was near his eye.”

It’s understood Orman became involved in a fight with another prisoner and a blade was used against him.

We told previously how Orman was being protected in maximum security Shotts by hardened criminals with links to the Lyons.

His trial heard how Orman bragged about being paid to kill Welsh and went on spending sprees at a JD Sports branch in Edinburgh using cash he was paid by the underworld.

In the days before the murder, Orman repeatedly visited a tanning salon, giving himself a bronzed complexion, and used a stolen Ford Kuga to stage what prosecutors called “reconnaissance” trips to Welsh’s home and gym.

Orman blasted Welsh from a distance of just one metre with a shotgun, the court heard, before fleeing in the Kuga.

Arrested after a car chase by cops where Orman drove his stolen Audi at speeds up to 123mph in the capital, he was charged with Welsh’s murder.

Shotgun cartridges were found in the Lochend flat of Orman’s ex-girlfriend while firearm residue was discovered in the pockets of Orman’s joggers. The Kuga also carried a tracker device which recorded the vehicle’s every movement.

He was convicted of murder in May 2021.

Sentencing Orman, judge Lord Beckett said: “To shoot an unarmed man as he approached his own house was cowardly, as well as a wicked, thing to do.

“His partner and young child were inside when you ended his life, apparently in expectation of payment.
